Zhineng Qigong Theory and Meditation

Zhineng qigong has a unique system of theories – The theory of hunyuan qi. Active form, passive (quiet) form and active cum passive form, three different forms. The active form of practices can be divided into three stages of external hunyuan, internal hunyuan and middle hunyuan, all together six practice methods.

o External Hunyuan stage - peng qi guan ding fa

o Internal Hunyuan stage - xing shen zhuang and wu yuan zhuang

o Middle Hunyuan Stage - zhong mai hunyuan, zhong xian hunyuan and fan ben gui yuan.

The Still/Quiet method of practice (meditation) and the quiet cum active type of practice.

Zhineng qigong incorporated the gist of many methods of practice. All the three methods of teaching are adopted :-

• Xin Chuan.

• Gou chuan.

• Xing chuan.

Zhineng qigong does not involve any special/unique yinian activities. Zhineng qigong adopts attraction method to stir up qi mechanism.

• Mind attracts qi (yi yin qi).

• Movement attracts qi (xing yin qi).

• Sound attracts qi.

Zhineng qigong is an open system of qigong that uses external qi for healing not own body qi.

WHAT IS TAUGHT AT OUR CENTERS?

1. Lift Qi Up Pour Qi Down

Lift Qi Up and Pour Qi Down (Peng Qi Guan Ding Fa) is the first form of Zhineng Qigong and the basic form for the prevention and healing of illness. Through physical movements and the use of the mind, external qi is drawn into the body and internal qi is released. The quality and quantity of our bodily qi improve, and the pathways linking us to the qi of nature are opened. Even people with limited mobility or strength can practice it, since the use of the mind is more important than precision of movement. It is an external qi practice.

2. Body And Mind

Body Mind Form (Xing Shen Zhuang) is an internal qi practice that works on the skin, muscles, sinews, tendons and bones, and on the channels through which qi flows. The unification of body and mind / consciousness is important in the practice of this form. It has great benefits for health and makes the body stronger and more graceful. It also opens the channels so qi flows more smoothly. Its practice enhances mind power and abilities.

The other methods of Zhineng qigong:

               1. Pulling Qi (La Qi)

               3. Stretching Qi (Chen Qi)

               4. Arm Stretching (Cheng Chang)

               6. Disperse Qi (Xun Jing Dao Ying)

               7. Group Healing Qi Field

               8. Wall Squatting (Dun Qiang)

               9. Self Awareness of HunYuan Qi (Zi Zai Hunyuan)

              12. Develop mind potential of children

“Wu Wei Jing Zuo Fa” (Wu Wei Quiet Sitting)

“Quiet sitting” is a fundamental part of martial art practice. It can enhance one’s health and mental wellness. It can also make our thinking clear, change the qi quality and nurture morality. “Wu wei jing zuo fa” is one of the methods of “quiet sitting”. Wu wei, literally can be translated to mean do nothing. However, Pang laoshi in his book, “Simplified Zhineng Qigong” on page 262, said that wu wei does not mean do nothing but it means do things naturally and not consciously or being forced into doing it. Thus, “wu wei jing zuo fa” should mean ‘natural quiet sitting’.

“Relax, quiet and natural, combine together to become oneness” is the principle; “Good understanding of the reasons and building up one’s character, be free of anxiety and peaceful” is the key; “Action based on good morality and natural method of dao” is the foundation.

1.Posture

Normal Sitting, Kneeling Posture, Cross legs (Lotus position)

Irregular, Half Lotus, Full Lotus

2. Requirements of Wu Wei Quiet Sitting

2.1Relax

Relax the mind, Relax the body, Relax the Internal Organs

Dispel all anxieties so that the brain is in a state of having no desire for anything. Remove the excited state of the body so that it is in a comfortable and natural condition. This follows naturally from the relaxed mind and body. This is because the internal qi in the body is extremely relaxed, thus stimulating the qi blood in the internal organs to move through freely.

2.2Quiet (Stillness)

Be quiet without any desire. Peaceful heart and harmonious qi. Behave normally. Free of anxiety and be peaceful.

Be quiet just like having dispelled all desire so that the heart (mind) will be quiet and clear and the shen will also be clear. Be quiet and peaceful internally, not disturbed by any distraction. Although during practice, distractions may come from everywhere, on and off, treat them as passing clouds, do not be disturbed psychologically by specially seeking for quietness. During practice, if disturbing elements or illusions appear, treat it in the manner, “If it comes do not reject it, if it goes away do not attempt to retain it”. If distracting elements occur, do not purposely try to remove them, let them come and go, just behave normally.

Let the brain be in a state of not having any thought and worries, so that it can modulate the life activities in the whole body.

2.3Natural

Be in the natural state is the fundamental principle of dao method, it is also the way a man’s life activities can benefit the body. Successful practice is in the heart (mind) and not in the form. Nature and Man have the same origin, they are mixed together to become one single body

It is not necessary to specially arrange for a “Quiet sitting” method. It is only necessary to be ordinarily quiet/still. The beneficial effect of a practice is in the acceptance and modulation of zhen qi (real qi) and not in the manner of a fixed posture or form. When one is practicing in such a quiet and peaceful state, the sky (universe) qi and man’s qi flow thoroughly and freely, one’s body internal zhen qi is thus modulated, one can then obtain a comfortable, natural mental enjoyment and achieve a state of good health.
